IMPHAL, April 9: Families Committee for Observation of 13 April today appealed to the people of the State to participate in the offering of floral tribute on April 13 at Cheraoching, following an order of the High Court allowing offering of floral tributes at the memorial tomb at the hillock.
The High Court’s direction came in a WP seeking for a direction to the respondent authorities to allow the petitioners to perform the ritual ceremony of offering floral tribute to the nine persons who were killed by the Army on April 13, 1982 at Kodompokpi.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, advocate N Surendrajit Singh who represented the petitioners, said offering of floral tribute at the memorial tomb of the nin was restricted for long.
The order said the Court on earlier occassions had allowed the relatives, well wishers and friends of the deceased persons to offer floral tributes under various orders passed in WPs, he said.
He added that High Court Manipur has passed an order stating floral tribute can be participated by all the family members, friends and well-wishers of the deceased persons.
Member of the committee Naorem Ibohalbi lauded the court order lifting restriction to the numbers of participants for the floral tribute to the deceased and said that the court however allowed for the ceremony from 8am to 4pm.
He further appealed to all concern to attend the ritual ceremony and floral tribute irrespective of caste and community to mark the unity and peace and also called for co operation from all section of society.
On behalf of the committee Ibohalbi also appealed to all concern not to imposed any kind of bandh or blockade on the day.
