JAC against Prasanta killing meets CM, says swift action assured

IMPHAL, April 27: The JAC formed in connection with the alleged killing of Sagolshem Prasanta today met with the Chief Minister appealing to arrest the culprits involved at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that the body of Prasanta alias Abung of Kakwa Makha Naorem Leikai Beni Leirak was found hanging from a tree, with a blindfold covering his eyes, at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai near Junior High School river bank on the morning of April 26.

This afternoon around 4, representatives of the JAC met with the CM at his office chamber. The meeting was also attended by deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio.

According to a JAC representative, the JAC has submitted a written memorandum urging the government to arrest those involved at the earliest and punish them according to the law of the land.

The CM and the deputy CM also assured to arrest the culprits at the earliest, he said.

It is also learnt that the CM had urged the JAC and family members to cooperate in the conduct of post mortem of Prasanta’s body at the earliest.

Meanwhile, later in the afternoon, the JAC met with the local meira paibis, club and public to chart out the future course of action.

It may be mentioned that a police team led by the SP Imphal West had stopped JAC members and supporters who had come towards the CM’s Bungalow at the Singjamei Supermarket crossing. Only a few representatives of the JAC were escorted to the CM’s bungalow by a police team led by the Singjamei police OC.
