IMPHAL, April 7: Registering strong protest against the plan of the State government and District Administration Chandel to construct a court complex for the district at Revenue Quarter Line, a sit-in-protest was staged by locals at DC Lamkhai today.
During the protest demonstration, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) was also formed to foil execution of the plan. Upon its formation, the JAC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh through DC Chandel, appealing him to revoke the plan in the interest of the people.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest staged, secretary of the JAC Prem Anal said that the people welcome the plan to construct a court complex for the district but choosing Revenue Quarter Line as the site for the construction is unacceptable.
He further said that it will be wise on the part of the government to choose another suitable site for the construction.
The JAC has asked the government to construct the court complex either at the erstwhile Sericulture Office near Chandel Sports Complex or Monsang Pantha village as the two sites are the best options available, he added.
He pledged to launch severe forms of agitation if the government forcibly tries to construct the court complex at Revenue Quarter Line against the JAC.
The JAC will not allow the government to construct the court complex at the area at any cost, he vowed.
The Reserve Quarter Line is thickly populated. There are many churches and government offices at the area. As the area is small and not suitable for any major construction, the government should find another site where public properties will not be affected by the construction of the court complex, the JAC secretary stated.
