IMPHAL, April 19 (NNN): In pursuit of its demand of converting three ILP Bills passed by the Manipur government into an Act, the JCILPS continued its ‘Leaders’ Meet’ in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Tuesday.

The meet on ILP was held at the Yangoiningthou community hall during which leaders spoke on the importance of the system to regulate influx of migrants.

It urged upon all ministers and MLAs to take steps as their responsibility at the earliest to convert the Bills into an Act. The Manipur Assembly passed the three Bills intended to safeguard the interests of indigenous communities on August 31, 2016 after a months-long agitation was launched by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS).

However, the president has yet to give his consent to the Bills so that they become an Act.

Committee convenor Khomdram Ratan and co-convenors Ksh Somerendro and BK Moirangcha were also present at the meet.

Ratan raised concern over the influx issue plaguing the state since for many years and said the migrants have threatened the existence of the indigenous communities.

The meet adopted six resolutions and demanded the government to implement the agreement it signed with All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) back in 1980 during which the union led the “Go Back Foreigners” movement in Manipur. The Manipur government had signed the agreement to control the influx.

The committee had recently organized the meet in respect of Imphal West and Thoubal district. For Imphal East, the committee is set to continue it tomorrow at the Sangeet Kala Sangam hall, Khurai Lamlong.
