IMPHAL, April 2: Fuming over non-supply of potable water by Samurou Water Supply Scheme in Oinam Sawombung area inhabited by Muslims for the last many years, Meira Paibi Development Association, Oinam Sawombung has banned the scheme indefinitely.

The association said memorandums had been submitted to PHE Division, Imphal West, Lamphel urging to look into the acute shortage of potable water in the area due to non-supply of water by Samurou Water Supply Scheme but the grievance has not been addressed so far.

It said women folk and club members of the area met with officials of PHED Lamphel today to discuss the matter.

During the meeting, the department officials mocked at the women folks and club members by saying that old water pipes will be fitted in the area but use plastic water pipes for a certain period, it claimed.

The association declared that water supply in the areas covered by the scheme has been banned in protest against the indifferent attitude shown by the department towards the people of Oinam Sawombung.

It also cautioned that any untoward incidents arise thereafter should be held by PHED Imphal West.
