IMPHAL, April 10: The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) is all set to organise a mass public rally to pressurize the government to include Meetei/Meitei in the Schedule Tribe list on April 22.
Speaking to media persons at its office located at Uripok Haobam Devan Leikai, STDCM president Y Mohendro said that a coordination body was formed on April 5 after conducting a consultative meeting.
Over 22 different civil organisation leaders participated in the meeting, he informed.
He pledged to launch different forms of democratic agitation including fast-unto death till the demand is fulfilled.
The STDCM general secretary L Lodendra who was also present at the meet said that the committee will organise awareness campaign on the theme “A cohesive and harmonious society based on social ethnic equality and equal respect for all indigenous communities in Manipur”.
As part of the campaign, the committee will organize poster campaign, distribution of leaflet to the people, public meeting, signature campaign etc, he informed.
The secretary appealed to all the concerned organisations/ individuals to not impose bandh or strike on the day instead support the mass rally.
