IMPHAL, May 22: Medical examination of the accused in the rape and murder of a young housewife, Wahengbam Ichal Devi of Sekmaijin Khunou Mayai Leikai, was conducted today at the Forensic Science Medicine Department of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The housewife was found brutally raped and murdered at Uchiwa Lamhang on May 19 morning.
The accused identified as Akhongbam Dijen Singh, 24, son of Tarpon Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai has been put in police custody since yesterday.
The deceased’s family and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the rape and murder of the housewife are yet to claim the body though post mortem examination was conducted yesterday at RIMS morgue.
