IMPHAL, May 13: Apex tribal organisations of the state have come together to dispatch a serious threat against the decision of the state government to send a team to pressurize the Central Government on seeking approval for the three Bills on protection of the rights of indigenous, which had already evoked negative responses from many hills organisations.
The proceeding of a joint meeting of Hmar Inpui, Kuki Inpi Manipur, Mizo People’s Convention, United Naga Council and Zoumi Council which was held at MPC Office, Churachandpur today stated that the resolution passed by the all political parties meeting convened by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh do not represent the will and sentiment of the tribal people.
The meeting also unanimously endorsed the proposed 48-hour total shutdown called by the JAC against Anti-Tribal Bills and resolved to make the shutdown a total success.
Further, the meeting also resolved that a Manipur-wide co-ordination committee be formed at the earliest to co-ordinate all the districts in the movement against the ‘three anti-tribal bills’ and to strengthen the JAC.
The meeting also agreed that the presidents UNC and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) will be the convenor and co-convenor of the meeting to form the co-ordination committee which will work in consultation with the JAC.
Two representatives each from Hmar Inpui, Kuki Inpi Manipur, Mizo People Convention, United Naga Council and Zomi Council will form the new body.
The meeting also resolved that a joint representation be submitted at the earliest to the President of India not to give his assent to the three anti-tribal bills.
