IMPHAL, May 31: A personnel of 26 Assam Rifles posted at Singhat Sub-Division in Churachandpur district allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with the gun issued to him on May 30 at around 12.35 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Yadav (Rifleman Number E-5020518-A) son of Raja Ram Yadav from Rewari, Janiwas village in Haryana.
Reports said the AR jawan was on duty at the security post when he shot himself four times by the Light Machine Gun issued to him.
Post mortem examination of the dead body was conducted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) morgue today. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, it added.
