Cabinet okays 1671 posts

IMPHAL, Apr 30: The State Cabinet has resolved to recruit 1671 teachers and staff under SSA and RMSA.
A Cabinet meeting held today agreed to appoint 489 Primary Teachers, 455 Upper Primary Teachers, 307 Graduate Teachers, 204 Office Assistants and 216 multi-tasking staff.
Briefing media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesman and RD&PR Minister M Okendro stated that the existing prohibition on recruitment would be lifted temporarily so that appointment to the 1671 posts can be made shortly.
The Cabinet gave its consent to hike the number of seats reserved for die-in-harness applicants from 10 per cent to 20 per cent in all departments except Education Department as a one-time measure.
For appointment of teachers under SSA and RMSA, the number of seats reserved for die-in-harness applicants would be fixed at 15 per cent.
The Cabinet meeting which started at 3 pm at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Appointment of teachers under SSA and RMSA would be done under the existing rules and regulations, informed the spokesman.
The Cabinet meeting further agreed to absorb 120 teachers currently working under ADCs into School Education Department.
It was also agreed to set up a Rural Engineering Department (RED) to monitor construction/development of roads in rural areas.
RED would be headed by the Chief Engineer of Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA), Okendro added.
