IMPHAL, May 31: Campaigning for IMC election came to a close at 4 pm this afternoon and subsequently all attentions have been shifted to the day of polling which falls on June 2, 2015. Meanwhile, according to officials all 189 polling stations in Imphal West district have been declared as hyper sensitive while nine in Imphal East district have also been bracketed in the same category.
The official source elaborated that in view of the tense situation prevailing in Imphal city as a result of the mass agitation and public curfew in Imphal City called by JCILPS all polling stations located in Imphal West district were declared as hyper sensitive.
In Imphal East district, besides the nine polling stations, 21 have been identified as sensitive and the remaining 36 as normal. The security deployment of armed and unnamed personnel for a polling station will compose of seven personnel including two women police each.
The security will reach their destination before 8 am of June 1, 2016. A total of 1275 polling personnel’s will make their departure from DCs or SDO offices of Porompat and Lampelpat respectively at 10 am and report at their respective polling stations at 9:30 am of June 1, 2016.
Nine out of the 27 IMC wards have been reserved for women. Altogether 86 candidates from various political parties are contesting for the 27 seats and another 128 candidates are in the fray for 53 seats for ward members. BJP and INC have put up maximum candidates of 26 each for councillors, CPI have fielded five candidates, LJP three and JD(U) one while there are another 25 independent candidate are also in the contest. The fate of the candidates will be in the hand of 175864 electorates including 91814 female electorates.
The time of polling will be from 8 am to 4 pm If necessary, re-poll will be conducted on June 4, 2016. Counting of votes will take place on June 6, 2016.
