IMPHAL, May 14: The Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpen has sought support from woman organisations in the valley in punishing the perpetrators involved in the assault and looting of a couple from Purum Pantha of Chandel district at Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai on May 8 last.
Speaking to media persons held at Manipur Press Club today, president of LNKK DB Francis said at around 11.30 pm of May 8, the couple, SK John and KH Lily, were attacked by some unidentified persons while they were returning from Churachanpur.
According to Francis, the culprits were bandh supporters and damaged their Santro car, bearing registered no. MN O5A 5258, in addition to robbing them of a sum of Rs 80 thousands.
He demanded that the victims should be compensated for the damage to their car and the culprits punished under customary laws.
Lily recounted that they had gone to drop Pastor Elvis Neghlal after participating at a Mother’s Day function where the latter was a resource person.
At the sport of the crime, around 15-20 suspected supporters of a pro-ILPS bandh stopped their car and without warning started attacking her husband and the car. Despite her pleas for mercy, they continued beating her husband and vandalising the car until some local people intervened and stopped them.
She added that an FIR was filed and a case taken under section 325, 354, 427, 384, 506, 34 IPC.
She continued that it will be a wrong idea to build communal tension on the basis of the attack.
Lily appealed to the locals, meira paibi and women organizations to support them and not protect the people involved.
