CHANDEL, May 21: Chandel deputy commissioner Robert Singh Kshetrimayum inaugurated the newly constructed Inter Village Road from Purum Chumbang Village to National Highway 102 at Chandel District Headquarters Road today.

A formal function was held at the Village Community Hall of Purum Chumbang today.

The function was also attended by Purum Chumbang Village chief Pr. Parhoi, Chandel Naga Peoples Organization (CNPO) president Ws. Kanral Anal and Chothe’s Tribe president Th. Malsawm Chothe as functional president and guests of honour respectively.

The newly inaugurated IVR is 1.5 km long.

Apart from delivering speeches by the dignitaries, a gift was also presented to all the 11 villagers who donated their agricultural land for construction of the road. And a memorandum was also submitted to the DC.

Several civil organisation leaders, village chiefs and church leaders of the surrounding villages also took part in the inaugural function among other.

It may be mentioned that the 1.5 kms long Inter Village Road was constructed by the villagers without any assistance from the government after some villagers donated their agricultural land.

Speaking as the chief guest, Robert said that taking up developmental works without depending on the government is indeed appreciable.

As the popular saying “if there is a will there’s a way”, It is the sheer will power of the villagers of Purum Chumbang, that they could construct the road on their own, he added.

Lauding the villagers for their initiative, the DC further said that we should not depend only on the government for development.

Rather, development should be taken up together by both the villagers and the government according to their respective capacity, he added.

Kanral Anal said the people of Chothe tribe are hardworking and generous people.

While appreciating the villagers who generously donated their land for the road, CNPO President maintained that connectivity is the most important for development. Proper road connectivity is a must for a village in order to develop, he added.
