Civil bodies deplore work agencies on progress of restoration of Imphal-Tamenglong road

TAMENGONG, May 3: Several frontal organisation of Tamenglong on Tuesday convened a meeting at PWD IB Tamenglong headquarter and condemned the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).

The meeting was organised by Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong to discuss about the deplorable and unbearable condition of Tamenglong-Khongsang road.

Prominent leaders from Traders Association, District Concern Development Association, Zeliangrong Students’ Union Tamenglong District, Chairmen Association Tamenglong, Driver Association, etc. attended the meeting.

The public meeting strongly condemned M/S Woodhills Infrastructure Ltd, National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and contractor for betraying the people of Tamenglong.

It may be mentioned here that on December 3rd, 2015, District Administration in the presence of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), sub- contractor, public leaders’ officially inaugurated the temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.

For temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways MoRTH has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 13,23,91,325 in the year 2012.

M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd was given tender and National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) as sole Project Implementing Unit (PIU).

The meeting resolved to open bank on the request of public and bank manager, however, all other government offices in Tamenglong to remain shut indefinitely till the demands is met in letter and spirits.

People have now no longer trust in M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd. Or National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) therefore let the BRTF execute Tamenglong- Khongsang road, stated another resolution, the meeting observed.

The meeting also resolved to intensify the agitation and strongly condemned the indifferent attitude of the state government for remaining silent over the issue.

The meeting also strongly condemned the alleged assault on bandh volunteers at Khongsang by 23rd Assam Rifles posted at Khongsang few days back.
