Women Wing bans entertainment progs during ILP stir

IMPHAL, May 10: Welcoming the stance of all political parties to send a delegation to put pressure the Union Government to implement the ILP system in the state, the JCILPS maintained that the public are anticipating for substantial results rather than mere attempts.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at its office, JCILPS convenor, Khomdram Ratan, exhorted the political parties to be more committed and sincere in interpreting the ground situation of Manipur as a result of the failure of the implementation of the ILP system and the threat posed by the influx of other people.

“The people are expecting for substantial results rather than a name sake delegation. We hoped the political parties to be committed, sincere not to mention confident”, said Khomdram Ratan.

He warned the Government of using the election ‘code of conduct’ as tool for delaying tactics on the eve of the IMC elections in June.

He hard-pressed that the issue must be settled before the election and fulfil the prolonged aspiration of the people.

In the meantime, the JCILPS convenor called on the people to bear with them and continue with the protest like torch rally and sit-ins according to their convenience.

Announcing its further course of action to be taken in the days ahead, he informed that on May 12 a sit-in will be staged from Sagolband to Keithelmanbi followed by two-hour road block starting from 1pm to 2 pm and formation of human chain just after the blockade.

Similar protests will be held on May 13 from Konungmamang to Irilbung, Keishampat to Hiyangthang on May 14, Moirangkhom to Lilong Bridge on May 15, Minuthong to Yaingangpokpi on May 16, Chingmeirong to Khonghampat on May 17 and Keishamthong to Malom on May 18.

The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Women Wing has welcomed the decision of all political parties to send a delegation led by Chief Minister O Ibobi to New Delhi on May 16 and asked the general public not to organise any entertainment programme during the renewed JCILPs stir.

Speaking to media persons at its office, JCILPS Women Wing convener Thokchom Apabi prayed that the team members successfully convince the central leaders to give their assent to the three bills which were passed unanimously by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last.

The Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and the Manipur Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 were passed unanimously by the State Assembly, she said.

Apabi maintained that all political parties have decided to step up pressure on the Centre for enactment of the three bills in the wake of renewed agitation spearheaded by the JCILPS. She said the women wing will continue its agitations till the demands are made by the Government.

The women wing appealed the general public to stop organising any entertainment programmes during the ongoing movement for implementation of ILPS in the State.

Condemning the excessive force used by police commandos to women protestors, Apabi said the JCILPS will fully endorse the agitations taken up by people of Uripok against the assault on Tourangbam (o) Tarini (45), wife of Yaima from Uripok Gopaljee Leirak.

Tarini was badly beaten up by the police commandos on May 8 night during torch rally demanding implementation of ILPS in the State.

The women wing also expressed unhappiness at the three elected women members in the Manipur Legislative Assembly for remaining silent even after the brutal attack against women protesters by State security forces.

She demanded the authority concerned to take up action against those security personnel involved in assaulting Tarini.

Hundreds of women today staged sit-in protest at Imphal-Kangchup road demanding immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the State and action against police commandos for the physical assault to Tourangbam (o) Tarini (45), wife of Yaima from Uripok Gopaljee Leirak on May 8.

The protesters blocked vehicular movement along Imphal-Kangchup road protesting against the police excess against the protesters. However, essential services like school van, medical, media, water tank, religious ceremonies and electricity were exempted by the supporters.

Meanwhile, sit-in-protest were also held at Kongba, Singjamei, Thangmeiband, Konung Mamang, Wangkhei, Uripok, Sagolband , Salam Leikai, Checkon and other areas. The protesters displayed many placards with messages demanding assent to the three bills, protect indigenous people, cancel non-locals from voter lists, government should take stringent steps to convert the bills into act, etc.

On the other hand, the students of Royal Academy of Sciences, Wangkhei and Brighter Academy, New Checkon formed human chain at Konung Mamang and marched towards Sangjenthong, bridge. However police stop them at CC Higher Secondary School gate and then the students turned back towards their respective schools.
