IMPHAL, May 19: Congress leader and MLA Kangujam Ranjit today appealed to all sections not to politicise or create unwanted tension with regard to the delay in enactment of the three bills.
He said, the need of the hour is for all political parties to join hands with the general public to collectively press the Centre on the three bills which are meant for providing safeguards to the indigenous people of Manipur.
Ranjit who is also the MPCC Treasurer was speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony of a Congress candidate Yumlembam (o) Rukamani at her residence at Wangkhei for the ensuing Imphal Municipal Corporation election.
The State government is not neglecting the three bills, he said, and added, every possible effort have been made to implement the bills.
He said, the all party delegation is still awaiting an appointment with the Prime Minister.
He continued following the passing of the three bills, several government offices were razed down and MLAs’ residences attacked in Churachandpur district. Nine precious lives were also lost in the upheaval, he observed.
The protest against the three bills seems to be influenced by an underground outfit, he said observing further that the State is not against any community.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Moirangthem Okendro who was also present at the flag-hoisting function said the representatives are servants of the people.
To bring development to the society, it is important for the government and the people to work closely, he added.
The people should trust the Congress government so that peoples’ aspirations are fulfilled, he said, further observing that the government is working to fulfil all demands of the people.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was also attended by Yaishkul MLA Elangbam Chand.
