IMPHAL, May 11:Former minister Dr Kh Loken, three sitting councillors of Imphal Municipal Corporation and members of Sagolband Block Congress Committee have resigned en bloc from the party. Their resignation letters have been handed over to President of MPCC TN Haokip today.

Talking to pressmen at his residence at Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai this evening, Loken said that the decision to quit en mass from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee was taken after a thorough discussion participated by the councillors and party workers after the three sitting IMC councillor were denied tickets for the upcoming IMC polls on June 2, 2016.

It was a very unfortunate decision by the new president and the office bearers of MPCC showing narrow mindedness and bias among its party men itself. Instead of strengthening and development of the Congress party, the long time party workers and several times elected councillors were denied allotment of Congress tickets for the coming election, he said.

For the last 14 years, Dr Loken said, he had made contributions for the growth of the party. Unfortunately, a sudden change came to the party organization after TN Haokip was appointed as President and a faction has been created in Sagolband Block Congress Committee which totally violated the Congress party constitution.

So all organs of Sagolband Block Congress Committee including Mahila and Youth have decided to tender resignation papers and submitted them to President of MPCC TN Haokip. This not taking political advantage for seeking a stronger party but a result of intolerance to the ill treatment meted out to Sagolband Block Congress by some vested interest, Dr Loken said.

The former minister announced that during the coming IMC election all the three councillors will fight as independent candidates. We will work together unitedly to defeat the Congress party as well as other political parties. He said that in the coming general election in 2017 he will also contest as an independent.

Sitting councillor of ward number 24, Kalanchonglu Gangmei, lamented that INC is the most corrupted political party ever. Being a Congress councillor for two consecutive terms she said the rejection of her application for IMC election ticket is sort of a political assassination.
