IMPHAL, May 23: In a bold move, a resident of Khurai has lodged an FIR against Khurai MLA, Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, for slapping the former last night at Khurai Puthiba.
The FIR was lodged by Leishangthem Itocha Meitei, the alleged victim of assault today.
Itocha was reportedly assaulted in full public view by the MLA last night around 8.30 at Khurai Puthiba while the former was engaged in efforts to stop overflowing of Imphal River.
Itocha narrated that the MLA brought along a truck (Tata DI), flood materials and tried to take his convoy through the bustling attempt to stop the overflowing river.
However, the MLA was requested by the people present there not to take his convoy through the route explaining that the ground has become loose and the route ahead was blocked by huge pile of earth dumped by two trucks.
Despite the request, the MLA reportedly threw a tantrum against the people for not giving him passage.
Itocha further maintained that he stepped in to pacify the situation but the MLA reportedly poured his anger on him by slapping him in full public view.
It has been further informed that the incident angered the public and they chased the MLA and his escort away from the area.
Itocha vehemently condemned the act and demanded action against the MLA as per law.
Meanwhile, denouncing the incident and demanding action against Dr Bijoy, local women staged a sit in protest today at Khurai near the residence of the alleged victim.
The protestors displayed placards and banners which says, “We demand action against Dr Ng Bijoy for assaulting innocent civilian”, “We are no longer safe under the Gunda Raj of MLA Dr Ng Biojy” etc.
