Hunger striker Tarini picked up by police, admitted to JNIMS

IMPHAL, May 11: Tourangbam Tarini who has been on hunger strike in protest against the alleged assault on her by the police on May 8, was picked up by a medical team led by CMO, Imphal West today as her condition deteriorated.

Tourangbam Tarini, 45 of Uripok Gopaljee Leirak started fasting since May 9 at Uripok Sorbon Thingel.

Although, Tarini refused to go with the medical team but she was forcefully taken away and admitted at JNIMS hospital.

Subsequently, angry locals came out on the street briefly blocked Uripok- Kangpokpi road, registering strong protest against the forceful pick-up of Tarini.

The protestors also took out a rally chanted slogan to give befitting punishment to police personnel involve in the alleged assault of Tourangbam Tarini and demanding to convert the bills into act.

The rally intended to march upto the Chief Minster bungalow was barricade by police personnel near Cheirap Court.

The JAC which formed against the brutal assault on Tourangbam Tarini alias Tainy Devi later submitted a memorandum to Chief Minster that the inhuman assault on a woman by policemen without any provocation was not only an insult to woman but beyond their service ethics.

The perpetrator of such crime must be punished to set an example, further said the memorandum.

As a result of the trauma inflicted by the assault T Tarina Devi, resolved to start a hunger strike on May 9. She even refused to take any medication for her injuries.

With her condition deteriorating a medical was advice to picked her up under command of additional Superintendant of Police, Imphal West, Dr Ibomcha Singh.

It may be recalled that the victim was Tourangbam Tarina, 45, of Uripok Gopaljee Leirak was allegedly attacked using sticks by the police leaving her with a fractured left hand, swelling head and bruises in many part of her body.
