Passenger service and private vehicles also stayed off the road. At the same time, most educational institutions except for colleges conducting semester exams remained closed.
The strike which commenced from 4 am today caused extreme inconveniences to the public especially commuters due to road blockades staged in different parts of Imphal.
Though the JCILPS had appealed to the public to abstain from their daily services and duties to support the cause, it did not clearly mention the exact manner of agitation to be taken up by the strike supporters, particularly of blocking roads.
However, JCILPS supporters thronged the street from early morning and staged all sorts of demonstration including road blockade, sit-ins and rally.
Later in the evening five persons including three women and a leader of the JCILPS students’ wing were injured when police fired upon a protest rally taken out as a part of the JCILPS strike at Keishampat.

However, police stopped the rally at Keishampat Junction.

All business establishments in the districts including Haokha, Kiyam, Wangjing, Khangabok and Yairipok, ceased their normal activities. Strike supporters restricted movements of vehicles on National Highway 102 at Thoubal Kiyam Babu Bazaar. However, college students appearing their semester exams and religious ceremony were exempted from the purview of the strike.
