IMPHAL, May 20: Five Left parties active in the state have cobbled together an alliance along with some Independent candidates to contest the Imphal Municipal Corporation election in at least 18 wards.
This was stated by state CPM leader Ksh Santa at a press conference held today at Irabot Bhawan, Imphal.
Expressing confidence that the alliance will win at least 10 seats in the IMC elections Ksh Santa said, the alliance is ready to give a stiff challenge to both the BJP and Congress.
He said the budget allocation for the IMC this year is Rs 10 crores, whereas Tripura has reflected Rs 348 crores for this year alone.
He also appealed to the people of the State to support their candidates. CPI candidates will be fielded at IMC Ward No. 27, 26, 20, 17 and 2.
He further expressed confidence of the joint front winning the IMC as four of their candidates are sitting candidates of Ward No. 24, 10, 11 and 27.
Addressing tha media at the press conference State CPI leader L Sotinkumar said, both the Okram Ibobi led Congress government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Central government is responsible for all the unrest in the State today.
He said the State Assembly had unanimously passed three bills to safeguard the indigenous people of the State on August 31, 2015.
Deploring the delay in enactment of the bills Sotinkumar said, the Ibobi government has failed to put strong pressure on the Centre to give assent to the bills.
He urged the state government to act and bring a resolution before the issue gets out of hand.
Sotinkumar further expressed strongly that the five Left parties in the State including the CPI, CPI (M), Forward Bloc, RSP and CPI (ML) are unhappy with the BJP led NDA government’s inaction on the issue of the bills.
CPI (M) leader Kshetrimayum Santa said the Left parties have already submitted a memorandum on the issue to the Chief Minister yesterday.
The same memorandum will also be submitted to the Prime Minister and Home Minister, he added.
We will pressure the State government to visit the national capital at the earliest, he claimed.
Once, the State government representatives visit the national capital and meet with the Central government authorities, the status of the three bills will be clear, he added.
