LPG would be introduced for cooking mid-day-meal in Government schools in the State.
In the first phase, the initiative would be launched in around 350 schools, according to information received from the School Education Department.
The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has already agreed to replace firewood with LPG for cooking mid-day-meal.
The initiative would be launched after selecting 350 schools who perform relatively better in terms of serving mid-day-meals to students.
ZEOs have been already directed to select schools with better performance.
IOC has been consulted to start providing LPG to schools as soon as the ZEOs submit names of the recommended schools, informed the official source.
The list of schools approved by the State Government would be submitted to the IOC and the IOC would identity distributors which would supply LPG to the schools.
The distributors identified by IOC would deliver commercial LPG cylinders to the schools assigned to them
As such, there would be no need for the school authorities to go to LPG distributors to collect LPG refills, added the source.
