Many State industries policies could not fully implement due to financial constraint: Govindas

IMPHAL, May 2: Commerce and Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam who also holds the Sericulture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry portfolio on Sunday said that many State industrial policies have been adopted but still such policies could not be fully implemented in the State due to financial constraints.

Govindas was speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of the Thangjam Agro Industries at the Auditorium of the Manipur Film Development Corporation.

He said that the State government has adopted several policies to develop the industrial sector in the State but unfortunate such policies could not be implemented due to the State’s financial constraint.

The minister said, however districts like Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur have been selected for setting up of industrial estates areas and the remaining districts will soon follow.

The food park at Nilakuthi will soon be inaugurated, he added.

A State industrial guide book will soon be published to guide the young entrepreneurs, he added.

Former Dean of Social Science, MU professor Mohendro said that prolonged dependence on agriculture is a sign of primitive economy.

He said that the development experience in Manipur speaks of a new encouraging trend of self-employment and family farms, micro enterprise and household business.

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF &PD) minister Ksh Biren Singh attended the function as president while chief secretary O Nabakishore, commerce and industries commissioner Vivek Kumar Devangam and commerce and industries director John Tlatingkhuma attended as guest of honour respectively.
