IMPHAL, May 20: Several clubs, civil organisations and meira paibis groups in a joint statement has fully endorsed the proposed state-wide public curfew due to be imposed by JAC against the Nungei firing incident from midnight of May 22 to 23.
The public curfew was called to denounce the failure of the Government to meet the demands of the JAC which included booking the culprit and opening of police outpost.
The organisations that have endorsed the public curfew are Uripok Huidrom Leikai Women Development Association, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai, Leimaphopam Lamjing Leikai Club, Leimapokpam, Leishangthem Khong Manung, Thoubal, Takhellambam Leikai Youth Club, All Lilong Chajing Clubs Organisation, Citizens’ Club- Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou, Union of Social Upliftment-Khurai, Shantipur Youth Development Association Kyamgei, United Development Organisation-Leishangthem, Leishangthem Wangmatabam youth Club, Manipur Central Youth Club-Keishampat Keisham Leikai, Youth Welfare Association-Wangoo Makha Leikai, Women Welfare Association Malom Tuliyaima Awang, Kiyam Siphai Babu Bazar Meira Paibi Lup Thoubal, Okram Youth Club, Thoubal Okram.
It may be recalled that armed miscreants on April 11 indiscriminately fired upon a meeting of a meira paibis of Nungei village injuring 18 individuals including four minors aftermath of the Mayang Imphal arson attack.
Subsequently, a JAC against the incident namely, ‘Nungei cruel firing incident towards meira paibis’ was formed and demanding the authorities to book the culprits involved in the firing and opening of a police outpost at Nungei area.
In the wake of the demands, similar firing incidents have occurred three times.
