IMPHAL, May 12: The last rites of Bachaspatimayum Pitaranjan alias Korabin, who was found in a partly decomposed state in a place under Kasom Khullen, was performed today after his body was claimed by family members.
It was learnt that the body was claimed not because of an understanding brought with the Government but following strong commitment given by Wangkhei MLA, Y Erabot.
Speaking exclusively to IFP in this regards, Erabot who represents the locality of Pitaranjan, claimed that there have been enough evidences indicating that Pitaranjan’s death was not natural yet the Government failed to take up its investigation process to the satisfaction of the JAC and bereaved family.
Despite the facts, the eventual consideration was that it will not be wise to deny the last rites to the departed soul and thus the body was claimed, he said.
Even as Pitaranjan’s death, officially, does not comes under the provisions for compensation, Erabot assured that efforts will be made to provide suitable job to the kin of the deceased besides providing compensation from his own pocket.
Referring to the sluggish nature of the investigation, the MLA said “The people are well aware on the level of incompetency of the Government. The Government does not issue any weapons to police stations in hill districts and taking this advantage militant groups operating in the hills are doing things at their own whims”.
JAC convenor Takhellambam Rajesh, also clarified that Pitaranjan’s body was accepted by the family not because of the satisfaction of the investigation done by the Government with regards to the ‘killing’ but due to commitment given by the local MLA Y Erabot, to take all the responsibilities with regards to the case.
It may be recalled that Pitaranjan’s body was found in a partly decomposed state in a village situated under Kashom Khullen sub-division on April 24. He left home on April 19 to meet a friend at Kashom Khullen.
