IMPHAL, May 16: The Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Professor Ch Arunkumar, has divulged that plans are in the offing to de-centralise the power of Director of the institute with the objective to reduce the work load rested on the shoulder of the Director and work efficiently.
Speaking to IFP, the Professor Ch Arunkumar, said that the decentralisation process would be made effective during his tenure as the Director of the Institute.
He revealed that from August 24, 2014 till April 22, 2015 (a period of eight months) he held the same post (RIMS director). Unfortunately, he was relieved from the post without any prior notification from the higher authority, he lamented.
According to him the reason behind the growing race for the Director post and the resulting imbroglio, was due to the centralisation of power and functions rested on the Director.
Nevertheless, he assured to discharge his duties as per the instruction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Pointing out that he once held the post of Medical Superintendent (MS) of the institute yet he could not perform his work effectively for the betterment of the institute owing to the centralisation of functions and powers.
He took charge as the present Director of RIMS on April 27, 2016 following an order issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India on April 26.
The charge of Director was given to him in addition to being the Professor of Orthopaedic Department however the order for the additional charge made a mention as “for a period of two months or until further order4s, whichever is earlier”, clarified the RIMS Director.
Even as Professor Arunkumar has attained over 62 year, the eligibility to hold the post of Director of the Institute has been extended to 65 years following an order released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (NE Division) on April 6, 2016, it is learnt.
In the meantime, the present RIMS Director, to give his full effort to regularise the work-charge Muster Roll, Contract Basis employees of the institute.
