IMPHAL, May 10: Ahead of the ensuing 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election which is slated to be held either in the end of the current year or in the early part of 2017, a joint political forum has been formed in Sugnu today solely to defeat the sitting MLA of the constituency K Ranjit in the election.
Addressing a press meet in Sugnu in connection with the formation of the forum, Khaidem Sarat who contested in the last election from BJP ticket said that the forum formed by three political leaders including him, has unanimously agreed to field a common BJP candidate as for the constituency with the firm objective of defeating the sitting MLA in the election.
He informed that the other two leaders of the forum namely Yumnam Jiban who contested in the last election on CPI ticket and Mayanglambam Binod who contested on MPP ticket have joined the BJP party.
Asserting that strength of the saffron party in the constituency has been consolidated with the joining of many leaders and workers of different political parties, Sarat maintained that Kakching Municipal Council is being ruled by BJP while a candidate of the party managed to secure a seat in Sugunu Municipal Council.
There is no difference amongst the leaders of the party. The forum has jointly resolved to support the common BJP candidate who will be given ticket for contesting in the election by State Election Committee.
Taking a jibe visibly at the sitting Congress MLA of the constituency, he contended that there has been no significant development in the constituency in the last three terms of the Congress government.
80 percent of the total population of the constituency is farmers who have been deprived basic facilities including urea and proper canal. Moreover, there is acute shortage of potable water. Education sector in the constituency has been reduced to a pitiable condition due to negligence on the part of the government, he pointed out.
He went on to lament that government schools in the constituency have been filled with lack of necessary infrastructure and that anganwadi centres as for Sugunu have miserably failed.
