MOIRANG/THOUBAL, May 14: Rainstorm s that hit the State yesterday left a trail of destruction at different parts of the State.
About 20 houses have been destroyed by the rainstorm in Khousabung area under Khousabung DCC of Churachandpur district. The rainstorm also damaged several houses at Phubala, Sunusiphai and Naranseina under Phubala GP of Bishnupur district while at least 14 houses have been ravaged by heavy storm at Serou area, Waikhong subdivision of Thoubal district last night.
Ibudhou Pakhangba Shanglen at Phubala was completely blown away and the office of GM Club and Phubala bazar were also badly damaged by the storm.
At the same time, five cattle were killed in lightning strike at Kwakta in Bishnupur district yesterday. The cattle belonged to Md Juma Khan, Md Shamseruddin, Md Firoz and Md Abdul Latif Khan of Kwakta Ward No 8.
MDC of Khousabung DCC, Seilenmang Khongsai assessed the damages caused by the catastrophe today morning in Khousabung area.
While three houses were completely ravaged, two other houses have been partly damaged by the windstorm at Bunglon village.
At Khousabung, five houses were damaged extensively. According to report, about six other houses were also partially damaged by the rainstorm in the neighbouring villages.
The families whose houses were completely damaged by the storm were provided temporary shelters at the village.
At the same time, a team of members of various philanthropic organisations like YMA, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi and NGOs led by social activist Mangcha Thangzawm rushed to the area to oversee the damages and extended humanitarian aid to the victims.
An NGO, Northeast FoodBanking Network has provided food items to the storm-affected victims at Bunglon village today.
In Serou area, Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh, SDO, Waikhong accompanied by Salami Naobicha Singh, Pradhan, Serou Gram Panchayat and other officials conducted a spot inspection.
Affected families were given monetary assistance by the Pradhan of Serou Gram Panchayat.
Out of the 14 houses, 3 houses have been fully destructed while 6 have been severely damaged. However, there is no report of human casualty.
Roof of Serou Bengali Primary School and Serou Practical High School were partially blown away.
