KANGPOKPI, May 25: Several frontal civil society organizations of Sadar Hills comprising of KSO, TSA and KWU including its constituent unit under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills have warned of imposing highway bandh along the Trans Asian Highway No 1 over the dilapidated condition of Imphal-Dimapur road.

CSOs Sadar Hills spokesperson, Lamcha Chongloi while addressing the media on the sidelines of highway inspection today from Taphou Kuki to Gamgiphai in Sadar Hills said that the Trans Asian Highway No 1 which is terribly donned with a multitude of bizarre potholes presents the perfect sorry pictures of untold misery of the road users as well as laissez-faire attitude of the Manipur Government apart from the concerned departments and contractors.

He continued that the hazardous 40-km stretch road condition of the highway between Taphou Kuki and Gamgiphai in Sadar Hills gives a psychosomatic disorder with the ad infinitum potholes.

Even though it serves as one of the obligatory links, the Trans Asian Highway No 1 proudly provides the users a grueling rides and hell like situation even in a short ride, he said.

More than 400-500 trucks and various other heavy loaded vehicles pass through the highway on daily basis therefore there is a serious need to develop and permanently keep the road in good condition, Chongloi added.

He also said that considering the never-ending deplorable road condition of the highway, CSOs Sadar Hills repeatedly appealed to the Manipur Government but no positive response has been received so far.

The CSOs Sadar Hills spokesperson asked the State government as to why the repairing work of the National Highway along Imphal-Dimapur road could not be continued smoothly by the concerned contractor and why the government fails to sanction the bills after completion of their assigned job.

The CSOs Sadar Hills appealed to the government and concerned department to immediately initiate repairing work of the highway along Imphal-Dimapur road before the onset of monsoon season.

They warned of imposing intense bandh along Trans Asian Highway No 1 if the government fails to repair the highway within one week.

The deplorable condition of the National Highway-2 enraged not only the civil bodies of Sadar Hills but also commuters as well as drivers of various transporters.

They blamed the ghoulish road condition for the frequent road accident in the highway.

Innumerable potholes have been witnessed between Keithelmanbi and Sapormeina via Bongmol and Leikop while worse situation is experienced between the stretch of Sapormeina and Motbung with oversize potholes enough to keel over heavy loaded vehicles.

A stretch between T Khullen and Senapati DHQ via Taphou Kuki also bears wealthy and horrific deep hole in close environs along the highway.

Earlier the CSOs Sadar Hills had imposed economic blockade for the same issue and suspended after the concerned contractor assured to begin the repairing work but the same has not been done till date.
