CHANDEL, May 22: At least eight houses were destroyed and many villagers were rendered homeless after a thunderstorm hit TM Dingpi village under Khengjoi Sub-Division in Chandel district last Saturday.
After the storm wreaked havoc in the village, the helpless villagers took refuge at Joupi village since then.
Talking to media persons, Onjamang Touthang, chief of TM Dingpi said that the thunderstorm accompanied with heavy rain destroyed and blown away rooftop of eight houses on early morning of May 21 and rendered many villagers homeless.
He further said that the villagers had to take refuge at Joupi village due to unavailable of safe shelter. Following the incident, the village chief appealed to the concerned authority to visit the areas affected by the thunderstorm and provide necessary assistance to the helpless villagers.
