IMPHAL, May 17: Two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) rocked the State in the past seven hours today. However, no casualties were reported in the blasts.
The first explosion took place in front of M/S Reliable Cargo Movement Transport at the busy Thangal Bazar near the Police Check Post, Khoyathong Traffic Island under City Police Station at around 4.10 am.
The IED was planted on the doorstep of the transport agency. The impact of the blast was so powerful that it left 2 feet in breath and 3 feet in length of the pucca covering the drain running in front of the office totally shattered.
The bomb splinters and pieces of the drain smashed the bulb installed above the door of the office.
Window glasses of the rooms on the first floor of the building and second and third rooms of the building opposite to the transport agency were also damaged in the powerful explosion.
On hearing the news, a team of forensic and bomb experts arrived at the site around 7.15 am to enquire the incident.
When forensic experts saw locals sweeping pieces of the glasses on the street, the former complaint the police of heavily compromising evidence of the crime scene after which the police stopped the locals from doing so further.
A case has been registered by the police in connection with the blast. There is no news of any arrest made till the filing of this reports.
On the other hand, the second IED explosion occured in a place in between Sunrise Club ground and Border Pillar No 78 around half km east of Moreh Police Station around 11.30 am.
Police have registered a case in this regard. It is said that both the IEDs were triggered by remote control device.
