IMPHAL, June 13: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today denounced participation of young school students in mass social agitations in the State.
Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat office, secretary general N Edison Meitei said as in the previous years, DESAM will be organising the “Disturbance free education zone Demand Day” on July 5.
This year’s theme will be ‘stop politics in the education’, he said.
Edison also expressed unhappiness that certain student organisations are using school students during mass social movement.
He said today student organisations are even threatening to boycott semester examinations.
Expressing his concern on threats and disturbances on education sector in the State, he said DESAM will organise mass awareness camps, debate competitions, public discussions,
poster campaigns and distribution of leaflets in the four valley districts.
He elaborated, on July 5, a public discussion cum mass rally under the theme ‘stop politics in education’ will be held.
Edison also said that since DESAM initiated observing the day, violent threats like hurling of bombs in educational institutions have decreased manifold and the authority concerned have also started declaring examinations results in time.
He said DESAM will also organise debate competitions on the theme.
10 students will be selected from each of the four valley districts and they will participate in the State-level competition on the same theme.
