IMPHAL, June 3: Delegates of the all political parties team which will camp in New Delhi for soliciting support from Central leaders for the three bills, which is currently waiting President’s assent for conversion into Acts, arrived there today after leaving the state capital in batches.

According to sources, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and BJP state unit president Ksh Bhabananda touched down later in the evening. Earlier, president of MPP N Sovakiran, president of Trinamool Congress Th Shyamkumar, secretary CPI, state council, Dr M Nara, state secretary of CPI-M Sarat Salam and party leader Ksh Santa, AAP leader Th Manihar, and JD (S) representative Manihar Goswami were among those who reached there early afternoon.

Party spokesperson RK Shivchandra, who is one the BJP leaders in the team, said that the Congress government has put up a lot of efforts for the passage of the bills and his party delegates will cooperate with the initiatives taken up the government.

At the party level, the state unit will lobby at its maximum level with the Central government and convey the desire and sentiment of the people of the state. Further, the BJP will not leave any stone unturned to prove that the bills in reality do not have any hidden agenda to segregate the different communities in the hills and valley who have been co-existing harmoniously from time immemorial, he said.

MPP president N Sovakiran said it is indeed unfortunate that there is Constitutional safeguard for restriction of flow of migrants to Manipur, although states in the northeast like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram have ILP system already in existence while Meghalaya is also seeking ILP system in the state. While Assam has the service of the Nehru Liaquat Pact 1950 which is to restrict outsiders besides the Indira Majibur Rahman Accord 1971, Illegal Migration Determination Tribunal Act 1983 and Assam Accord 1985, Sovakiran said.

We will convince the Central leaders that the conversion of the three bills into Act will be in the interest of safeguarding the indigenous people of Manipur. The MPP wants the Indian democracy to grow on the model of unity in diversity not the assimilation of smaller communities into the major community. The agenda of the all political parties delegation is that the safety of the indigenous people must be preserved, he added.
