IMPHAL, June 1: The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch has warned to stop all its ambulance services in the State immediately.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held at their office today, general secretary Y Mohen Singh said that if the people have no respect for the society’s symbol and services, there is no need to continue their service.
Mohan said, it is unfortunate that supporters of the ongoing movement demanding implementation of ILPS in the State have been attacking vehicles mostly ambulances and staff of the society.
Ambulances involved in transportation of patients from across the State have been pelted stones, and attacked using catapults.
He expressed that the Geneva Convention in October 1864 had resolved that there should be no disturbances created against the service of the Red Cross Society.
Unfortunately, several of its ambulances and volunteers who render 24 hour services for the people are attacked in the State, he claimed. Mohan also said that government, JCILPS and the hill based organisations should sit together and find a solution to the issue at the earliest, before it spirals out of control.
