IMPHAL, Jun 4: Leaders of BJP Manipur Pradesh who are delegates of the all party delegation which left Imphal for New Delhi yesterday called on Union Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju today. BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman RK Shivchandra told The Sangai Express that the BJP team including party’s State unit president Ksh Bhabananda, MLA Th Bishwajit, Sh Shantikumar, general secretary L Basanta and himself held a meeting with Kiren Rijiju at the latter’s 9 Krishna Menon residence, New Delhi. During the meeting which started at 2.15 pm and lasted for almost 40 minutes, the BJP team urged the Union MoS to do everything that is required to convert the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly into Acts.
The team also made it clear that the three Bills contain nothing which can be interpreted as anti-India or anti-tribals. They pointed out that the Bills are akin to the Acts enacted by the Governments of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The Bills were passed by the State Assembly in view of the serious challenges posed by incessant influx of outsiders to the indigenous peoples’ livelihood and the State’s demographic balance, the BJP team told the Union MoS. They made it clear that the Bills were essential to avoid extinction of indigenous Manipuri people, conveyed Shivchandra. He said that the team would also hold another meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to bring a solution to the issue.
