IMPHAL, Jun 10: Citing void of merit, the High Court of Manipur has dismissed former JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan’s wife Khomdram Hemolata’s plea to quash the criminal case, wanted tag and cash reward on her husband.
Singjamei police had taken up a criminal case against Ratan under FIR Number 85 (6) 2016 after a photograph that showed him taking oath by holding the flag of banned UNLF went viral on June 2 last.
Later on the day, Manipur police declared Ratan as a wanted man with a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh.
Hemolata’s criminal petition was listed under Criminal Petition No 11 of 2016 before the Court of Chief Justice in-charge Rakesh Ranjan Prashad today.
After hearing both the parties, the Court dismissed the criminal petition.
During a press conference on June 2 night, Kh Ratan claimed that the photograph was a doctored image. He alleged that the photo was intentionally circulated with an ulterior motive to sabotage the ILPS movement.
On June 3, Ratan tendered resignation as the convenor of JCILPS.
On June 4, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West passed an order to freeze the SBI Singjamei Branch account of Khomdram Ratan with immediate effect.
Earlier, police submitted a report against Ratan to the Court stating that he had indulged in prejudicial activities against the State.
Police alleged that Ratan had instigated the innocent public to promote social unrest, rioting and enmity among different section of the people of Manipur in the recent past in the backdrop of JCILPS.
Police further accused Ratan of creating serious breach of law and order, disturbing public tranquillity and harmony with colossal damage to public properties.
It was also submitted by the police that Kh Ratan has been funding the banned UNLF.
