On checking inter-State passenger buses, some non-local labourers were found ducking under the seats trying to evade detection. There have also been instances where some passenger buses arrived with fewer passengers, said general secretary of Advance Women’s Society Thangjam Amubi, who also took part in the checking exercise.
She said that there were also non-local labourers who alighted from the passenger vehicles before reaching the check point and got their way through other routes.
Assistant convener of JCILPS Arjun Telheiba said non-local labourers engaged by different agencies for construction works in the State were detected during the drive. Today nine labourers of Simplex were found without valid identity proof.
He said that more emphasis would be given on labourers engaged for different works in the State who do not possess valid identity proof.
A total of 80 non-local labourers without valid identity proof were detected today during the check which started from 4.30 am. Since ten of them were found to be ill, they were not handed over to the police.
