HDFC bank robbery case 4 more surrender, Rs 25 lakh recovered

IMPHAL, Jul 10: Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Thoubal district police constituted under the supervision of its SP to investigate HDFC bank robbery case today recovered Rs 25 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh after four more persons directly involved in the case surrendered before Yairipok police station SDPO S Hemanta at around 8 last night.

Of the four persons, one is a 17-year-old juvenile while the other three persons have been identified as Laishram Jayenta (24) son of L Manimacha of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Nahakpam Atang alias Romesh (21) son of N Nongban of Charangpat Maning Leikai and Thiyam Munal (24) son of Thiyam Inaobi of Charangpat Mayai Leikai.

Jayenta and Munal are said to be VDF personnel. A reliable source said that the SIT began to carry out raids at various localities of Charangpat acting on the revelation of the four persons.

By today evening, the SIT managed to recover jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh in cash from different places of Charangpat, added the source. Alleged kingpin of the case identified as Mutum Gandhi alias Robin alias Ibocha (30) s/o M Kalamu of Charangpat Mayai Leikai is still absconding, added the source. It may be mentioned that 6-7 persons looted cash and jewellery worth around 2.6 crore from HDFC Bank, Thoubal branch at around 5.30 pm on July 4 last. Police swung into action and arrested two of the  looters the next day.
