IMPHAL, Jul 22: At least six students of TG Higher Secondary School sustained injuries and were rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after police fired mock bombs to disperse the agitating students who tried to take out a mass rally towards Raj Bhavan from the school campus today demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
A large number of young students of TG Higher Secondary School tried to take out a protest rally which was stopped by a strong team of Manipur Police including women police personnel at Nityaipat Chuthek using barricades.
The student protesters raised a series of slogans demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System, removal of the ‘wanted’ tag placed upon former convener of JCILPS Kh Ratan by the State Govt.
The confrontation lasted until the students tried to force their way out of the barricade and human shield placed by the police personnel. Following the confrontation, police fired several rounds of mock bombs and tear gas to disperse the agitating students who were not ready to back off.
Even though a large number of women police personnel were seen deployed in the area, male police resorted to controlling the protesting girl students. In the commotion, six student sustained injuries and were later rushed to RIMS for treatment.
The injured students have been identified as Thiyam Neha of Kwakeithel, Preety Sanasam of Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Malemnganbi Khundrakpam of Kongba, Chinthoibi Konsam of Khurai, all studying in class-XII; Oinam Binita of Naharup and Martina Mutum of Bishnupur studying in class- XI. The students are said to be stable.
