IMPHAL, Jul 21 : The Teachers and Medical Officers’ Association, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) stayed away from OPD duty from today in protest against the authority of the hospital over the suspension of Registrar of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.
“The strike which began at 9 am will continue till July 23. But other services like emergency, ward duty, routine operation and classes will function without any disturbance,” the association said.
Many patients were the losers owing to the standoff. They had to return home as the OPD service was found suspended due to the strike. The association has demanded that the suspension order against Dr L Trinity be cancelled.
Dr L Trinity Meetei was recently placed under suspension over the death of Th Kheroda Devi of Kongpal in Imphal East during child delivery at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on July 6 last. Imphal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society Manipur has also condemned the suspension of Dr L Trinity Meetei.
An enquiry committee was set up to probe the matter and the committee submitted its preliminary findings to the RIMS Medical Superintendent on July 8.
Another report submitted on July 11 stated that a comprehensive enquiry would be needed so as to enable the enquiry committee to submit a detailed report on the death of Th Kheroda.
The family of the deceased woman has blamed doctors for her death demanding a thorough probe into the incident.
