IMPHAL, Jul 20: Slain CRPF personnel of the State, Head Constable Khundrakpam Opendra of Heirok part-II who was killed in an ambush on July 18 in the jungles of Bihar’s Aurangabad district was brought home today on a special helicopter this evening. Fitting homage was paid to the slain soldier at the Imphal International Airport.
Ten personnel of the elite CoBRA battalion of CRPF were killed and five others injured after a group of Naxalites laid an ambush on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also in-charge of Home, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister M Okendro, Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute and other officials of the Police Dept and officers of CRPF, Army and the Assam Rifles joined in laying wreaths to the martyr.
Deputy Chief Minister condoled the sad demise and shared grief with the bereaved family members of Head Constable Khundrakpam Opendra. Gaikhangam said, “The sacrifice made by Opendra is worthy and we should be proud that we have such brave and courageous soldiers like him. He died trying to defend the country and we all must acknowledge the supreme sacrifice.”
Late Opendra is survived by a son, a daughter and wife.
