As the JAC of All Manipur Written Test Successful Candidates of Police Constable (Male) 2013 organised a meeting and took out a rally at Singjamei, a tense confrontation broke out between the candidates and police.
Meanwhile the All Manipur DPC Completed Candidates of Police Constable (Male) 2013 has called an indefinite State-wide with effect from this midnight.
Soon after the meeting started at Singjamei community hall, a police team from Singjamei station arrived there which resulted in a ruckus for a short while. Later, the JAC representatives and the police team arrived at an understanding that the meeting would wind up after a few hours.
In the meantime, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president arrived there and he also took part in the meeting.
After the meeting, the participants set out on a rally from Singjamei Bazar alongwith Adim Pamei. After marching for some metres, they were blocked by police at Singjamei Chingamakhong which resulted in a tense confrontation between the two sides.
As the strong police team tried to disperse the agitators by firing tear gas shells, the protesters retaliated by pelting stones. Two persons were injured in the confrontation.
The two injured persons have been identified as N Johnson (28) s/o Kumar of Naharup Pangong and Subashchandra of Thoubal Thokchom.
On account of the confrontation, there was traffic jam at Singjamei Chingamakhong. While Subashchandra was admitted to JNIMS, Johnson was taken to Advanced Hospital and then later shifted to Raj Medicity.
The meeting resolved to take the issue to Court and also to form a committee of guardians.
It further resolved to prevent holding any fresh DPC unless the results of the DPC held earlier are announced. They demanded that the results of the DPC should be declared by August 25.
A press release issued by the All Manipur DPC Completed Candidates of Police Constable (Male) 2013 informed that they have resolved to intensify the ongoing economic blockade on National Highways.
However, essential services, water supply, power, medical and media would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
It further alleged that ten protesters were brutally assaulted by police in the course of the protest rally held today.
Informing that two of them sustained critical injuries and undergoing treatment in hospital, it demanded that the State Government pay all the medical bills of the two.
