IMPHAL, Aug 10: Whereas a girl sustained injuries when an IED exploded near Maphou Dam this morning, another IED exploded near the main gate of Manipur University this afternoon.
The first IED exploded inside a bunker of a BSF mobile check post located around 18 Kms to the North East of Lamlai police station at around 8.45 am.
A team of 49 Bn BSF which came there in a vehicle were heading towards the bunker to start their daily duty when the bomb exploded all of a sudden.
Even though the BSF troops escaped unhurt, a minor girl Lingneichin alias Neneo Singshit (4) d/o Satgou who was inside a nearby tea stall was hit by splinters. She has been brought to RIMS and her condition is said to be out of danger.
Later, additional BSF troops and police came and inspected the blast site.
Notably, two IEDs exploded in quick succession at Moirangpurel Maning Loubuk, not far way from today’s blast site on May 26 this year and the explosions left one IRB personnel attached to 49 BSF injured.
Meanwhile, another exploded just opposite Manipur University main gate, Canchipur along Imphal-Moreh highway at around 12.35 pm today.
However, there was no report of any casualty.
According to information culled from the spot, the IED exploded on the top of a mound of earth beside the highway, around 300 metres south of MU main gate.
A convoy of Assam Rifles comprising of four vehicles was heading towards Imphal from Thoubal around the time the bomb exploded.
Even as the vehicle travelling rearmost felt the impact of the blast, there was no casualty.
The explosion left a crater on the mound and earths were strewn all around.
A combined team of Assam Rifles and police carried out a search operation in the area soon after the explosion.
