IMPHAL, Aug 8: A combined team of Imphal West district police and 25 Assam Rifles of Loitang Khunou post arrested a man along with an RDX-type IED weighing around 3 kg on NH-2, said Th Vikramjit, Imphal West Additional SP (Operations) Imphal west during a press conference held at Imphal West Commando complex.
Acting on a credible information, a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and personnel of 25 of Assam Rifles led by Loitang Khonou Post commander Major Radhakrishnan carried out a frisking drive at Tendongyang under Sekmai police station today morning.
During the frisking drive, a suspicious object wrapped in a black polythene bag was recovered from a gunny bag containing rice inside a bus (MN01- 1823). Later, bomb experts confirmed the object as RDX-type IED fitted with iron balls, detonator and battery. One remote control device was also seized from the same bag.
The owner of the bag was detained for questioning. Sekmai police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
When asked about any leads about the blast and detection of bomb near M Sector, the Additional SP said that investigations are going on. Post commander of 25 Assam Rifle Loitang Khonou Post, Major Radhakrishnan, DSP commando and Commando OC were also present.
