Myanmar NationalsMyanmar nationals illegally settled in Mizoram state in northeast India are facing repatriation by some Non-governmental Organizations of Mizoram.

An order was issued to leave, to Myanmar nationals from places such as Kolasib Township and MualKhang village of Mizoram by Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizo Upa Pawl (MUP) and village council of MualKhang by 30 June.

A joint action committee (JAC) was formed for the repatriation campaign for Myanmar nationals by MualKhang village’s YMA, MUP and Village council and the JAC will continue the campaign.

The Zonet TV Special report mentioned that Myanmar nationals were resettled in those areas over the last three years and there are local wine factories in the region. So, the repatriation campaign was launched before the wine factory affected local people in the future.

16 households out of 50 in MualKhang village were illegally migrated Chin people from Myanmar, said a report.

“I have no idea what to do. I have been staying here since childhood. So, I have no Myanmar National ID card. We could not get Mizoram voter IDs for a long time” said a woman.

It is learnt that some Chin migrant workers had resettled more than 10 years ago in Maul Khang village and Kolasib Township. The migrant workers are dependent on Joohming cultivation.

Hundreds of Chin migrant workers staying in Rangvamual and Phunchawng village near Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram were driven out last month by the Central Young Mizo Association, the strongest NGO in Mizoram state.
