IMPHAL, 22nd FEB: Suspended Manipur police head constable Th Herojit of Lamsang, who is the prime accuse in the July 23, 2009 BT road firing case, and Human Rights Alert director Babloo Loitongbam were questioned by sleuths of CBI, Imphal unit on Wednesday as the probe agency formally reopened the case. After completion of interrogation for the day, Herojit informed media persons outside the CBI office complex that he shared all details to the CBI which are contained in his confessional statement made through the media in February last year, including owning up the killing of Chungkham Sanjit in stage managed shooting following instructions from his superior officials.
Conveying that he was pleasantly surprised by the CBI’s decision to reopen the firing case, involving police commandos and death of a pregnant young woman Rabina Devi besides Sanjit, Herojit exuded confidence that the reinvestigation will deliver justice as is desired by the people of Manipur.
Meanwhile, trial on the infamous broad daylight shooting continued in the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West on Wednesday during which all accused charged-sheeted by the CBI including the then OC of City police station – Yumnam Munal Singh, inspector Hijam Devendra Singh of CDO Imphal West, rifleman Ngangom Toyaima, constable Wahengbam Binoykumar, havildar Thokchom Jagat, rifleman Md Imran Khan, head constable Oinam Keshori and constable Makan Kuchung made their appearances.
Herojit was informed to have submitted petition for dispense from the court on Wednesday as he was scheduled to appear before the CBI. The next trial of the case has been fixed to March 9.
