CCpur, Mar 2: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today delivered the BJP’s final stroke for the first phase of the Assembly poll, hours ahead of the termination of campaign activities, promising justice for the nine dead bodies; to solve the political problems of the Kuki-Zomi people as well as to safeguard the identity and territorial integrity of Manipur.
“The party shall address the long pending grievances of the people, and deliver justice to the nine dead bodies by initiating a proper and respectable investigation. We will hand over the case for investigation to CBI. The BJP is committed to bring about an honourable solution and ensure burial of the dead bodies,” he told a rally for V Hangkhanlian, the party’s candidate in Churachandpur AC at Nghathal playground.
The Home Minister who was believed to have landed in town well ahead of his political address, launched a scathing attack on the Congress Government saying they are propagating the politics of division and confusion among different communities for the past 15 years simply to grasp power.
He accused the Ibobi-led Government of polarising the communities and endorsing corruption He was responsible for the killing of so many innocent people, including the nine bodies that are still awaiting their burial at the Churachandpur district hospital mortuary for the past 550 days. He also assured the people of Manipur that in 5 to 10 years, the BJP will develop the State as a model state of the North East if they help the party root out the Congress Government. He cited the prevalence of rampant corruption as one of the main reasons for its backwardness as well as high rate of unemployment. There is no dearth of natural resources or lack of human talents in the State. It just happens that the Congress has been depriving the people of its rightful growth for the past 15 years, asserted Singh who complimented the State for its beauty which is worthy to be developed as an attractive tourist destination.
On the protracted economic blockade, the Union Home Minister said he is of the opinion that a Congress party’s conspiracy must be behind it as similar events unfolded before the last Assembly election too. Reiterating the party’s stand on the sensitive case of territorial integrity, he said the BJP will fully safeguard the identity and territorial integrity of Manipur if the party is elected to power.
The Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM is a testimony of BJP’s commitment to bring about a peaceful resolution to violence in the North Eastern States, and the Ministry of DoNER has demonstrated its dedication to develop the region, claimed Rajnath. The Central Government is committed to solving the political problem of the Kuki-Zomi people in Manipur, and is initiating talks with the SoO groups, he continued.
“In the coming election, we request you to support BJP so that we can initiate the process for honourable solution of your problem at the earliest,” he said. Meanwhile, the Bodo Peoples’ Front leader, Bishwajit Daimary later in the day dubbed the announcement made by the Union Home Minister as historic for the tribal people of Manipur and called on them to grab the opportunity and ensure that BJP is elected to power. He (Rajnath) has given his commitment. It will be irresponsible if the general public fails to seize the opportunity to take their age old grievances to its logical conclusion, claimed the Bodo MP, whose party is an ally of BJP.
