Manipur Police Department has been put on alert following reports of increasing inflow of foreign nationals and illegal infiltration of foreign nationals into the state, an official source said Wednesday.
Based on the report, state home department has asked the state police department to put extra vigilant at the foreigners check posts across the state, the source added.
A letter from state additional chief secretary (home) Dr. J Suresh Babu to the state DGP on April 3 last stated that the home department has the report of increasing trend of foreign nationals intruding into Manipur territory illegally.
To check and ensure that there was no infiltration of foreigners to the state, there was the need to revamp the strength of present manpower, security personnel and infrastructure at the Foreigner Check Post/Immigration check posts set up at Jiribam (at the border with Assam), Mao, Jessami (both bordering with Nagaland), Behiang (Churachandpur bordering with Myanmar), Moreh in particular and Imphal International Airport in general, the home department observed.
State police department may deploy additional manpower at these foreigners check post and ensure proper screening of persons entering Manipur.
If necessary, police department may make assessment of additional requirement of manpower and infrastructure for the foreigner check post/immigration check posts and send proposal to home department for taking up on priority.
Following the intimation from the home department, state police has issued instruction to state CID and all concerned security agencies to remain alert at the check posts to ensure that no illegal foreigners is allowed trespass to the state from across the border.
Meanwhile, the eight young boys recently rescued from being trafficked from Imphal Airport were turned out to be Myanmar national during verification by authorities of Manipur government, another official source said.
A team of Anti-Human Trafficking Cell of Manipur police, on March 27 last, intercepted altogether eight young boys suspected to be from Myanmar at the Tulihal Airport where they were about to take a flight to Chennai without any valid documents.
The boys were sent back to their respective native places after counseling to their guardians who took them back, an official report said Wednesday.
Another 16-year-old girl suspected to be trafficked was rescued by Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Manipur police from Tulihal Airport on Tuesday.
The girl who hails from Churachandpur district was later handed over to Childline Imphal West and again to Child Welfare Committee for proper verification.
