Many skill development programmes have been rolled out by the state government for training the unemployed youths under the ‘Make in Manipur’ project. A 15-day skill development programme on Kouna craft – Water Hyacinth has been organised to enhance livelihood, especially for women, unemployed youths and the most disadvantaged. Organised by People’s Development Society in collaboration with NABARD, the programme was kicked-off on July 8 at Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leikai in Imphal.
The training aims to develop skills among the women folk and form self help group (SHG) clusters where women can engage in productive work. As many as 30 women are being trained by renowned Kouna Craft instructor, Akhom Rasho Singh.
Women are being trained in the making of Kouna mats, mattress, jewellery boxes, bags, purses and flower bases in the programme. The participants feel that such training will help them to enhance their skill and enable them a better livelihood.
Such skill development programmes have been embarked by the state government to meet the aspirations of youth through training, enhance employability and wider employment avenues. Moreover, such programmes enable livelihoods, increase productivity and income levels of people in the state.
