IMPHAL, Apr 18: Continuing drive against illicit liquor and other contraband drugs, Imphal East district police acting on specific information arrested a non-local along with 8640 pieces of SP tablet worth around Rs 1 lakh from Palace Gate under Porompat police station today at around 11 am.
The continuous drive is being carried out under the instruction of SP Imphal East K Kabib.
Police sources identified the arrested non-local as Suresh Kumar (43) s/o (L) Gupteshwar of Nalibazar Buxar in Bihar presently staying at Kakhulong.
He was intercepted by a team of the district police led by SDPO Porompat PS Mayengbam Roni under the supervision of Additional SP (Law) Wungpam Kasar.
A parcel containing 8640 pieces of SP tablet was found from his possession.
On interrogation, Suresh Kumar revealed that he brought the parcel from New Delhi and he was on the way to Kshetrigao to deliver the contraband drug.
He also revealed that he had brought similar parcel on two occasions in the past.
The seized SP tablets are worth around Rs 1 lakh in the grey market, the sources said.
